opening poem: grateful for you
looking at the moon
grateful for my eyes
listening to morning birdsong
grateful for my ears
feeling the breeze caress my cheek
grateful for my skin
drinking morning tea
grateful for my tastebuds
meandering in the garden
grateful for the earth beneath my feet
smelling the fiddlewood blossoms
grateful for my nose
feeling melancholy and thinking of a better future
grateful for my imagination
missing my mother and father
grateful for the love that allows such loss
meditating to calm my racing thoughts
grateful for my mind
sitting and watching my breathing
grateful for my breath
smiling while writing this poem
grateful for you
a ramble: thinking about gratitude
i have been thinking about gratitude/what it means to be human/and grateful/then/the compassionate one/her welcoming space between the breaths/leaned over/as if compassion has a body/knowing full well/that time/some times/stands still/call it hope/finally she whispered/kindly insistently/the truth/is not/what you think/it is/then there is the story/the butterfly dreaming/ she is human/this business of being/human/each day a covenant with the day before/i know this/i walk with the bones of my ancestors/i can not recall/their names/but i see you/with their eyes/and their broken hearts/still i remember/jane’s blue eyes/the first time we met/a dream/then there is the other dream/the one where i dream i am dreaming/the one/where i am dead/watching me dream/dreaming death/now i am alive/a brief interlude in eternity/recently arrived/ask the moon/soon long gone/ask the sun/now/just sitting here/soft welcoming rain/raja barking at the window/jane sleeping in the bedroom/dreaming this moment/dreaming this breath/aaah this breath/such a gift of love/such kindness/now/i think i am /feeling grateful
closing poem:
grateful for this day
now is all there is
all there is ….is now
we are all living in this now
now is a timeless miracle
you and i did not create it
creation created now
now we are all breathing
breathing in the now
breathing here breathing now
breathing now is so precious
no single breath is guaranteed
each breath gives birth to the next
this day is an extraordinary gift
no other day exists
i breathe now
grateful for this day
Touched by your words
Here
Now
Thank you
